The UAW Workforce Editor’s Note: The following article was found on the new UAW web site www.iamtheuaw.org. Bill Jacobs is a Local 2166 member, assigned to the Stamping Plant.
Thanks to the hard work and struggles I too have a good job as a UAW represented Electrician here at GM in Shreveport, La. I am proud of the good work we union members perform; the caliber of work, the work ethic, the community feel of our workforce—especially when you take into consideration the counter productive engineers and management inadequacies we are forced to do a good job in spite of; we make our American vehicles with pride and commitment to excellence that is not apparent in the GM hierarchy of bean-counting morons who can’t remember where they left the beans. Unions have made America great and forced much needed fairness, equality, quality of life and common respect for our fellow American workers and the great products Americans still build and provide. The pay scale, benefits, respect, dignity, honor, and manufacturing advances, knowledge, product safety, safety on the job—the very best work environments in the world have all been achieved through UNION activities and proactive insights of our union members and strong union leadership. I ask that we all please consider these proud facts when we vote for Pro-Union representatives at all levels of government and that everyday we can and must be proud of what we as union-members represent to the American work force standards of living for all Americans. Thank you all, my Brothers & Sisters, |
