Shop Chairman's Report
We Face Many Difficult Issues

The year 2007 has ended and still no Local Agreement. We will continue to work under the former Local Agreement until a new agreement is reached and ratified.

I would like to thank the membership of UAW Local 2166 for your continued support as we continue into Local Negotiations.

I would also like to personally thank our committee members for the great job that they are doing. Your Bargaining Committee will continue to do everything within their power to represent you to the very best of their ability. We are still faced with many different and difficult issues. We will continue to do our best to communicate with you the membership so that you will be informed.

I also ask that everyone get involved. Come to Union Meetings, serve on standing committees and do what you can to help all of us move this Local Union forward. I also want to encourage you to encourage the bargaining committee to keep on no matter how tough things may get. Encourage each other and remember that we are all UAW brothers and sisters.

Management has announced another de-rate of seven (7) jobs an hour. This means approximately another two hundred fifty (250) to three hundred (300) jobs being eliminated. We could be faced with members being laid off. Hopefully we will be able to tie this in with the Special Attrition Package and other events such as transfers and training in order to minimize layoffs. Currently no production will be scheduled for the week of February 18, 2008, which will be the week of de-rate and shortly after will come the layoff.

With the economy looking the way it is, things are not looking good in the auto industry; spend wisely and save your money.

New Attendance Procedure: Hopefully everybody understands the new attendance procedure; Document 8 of the 2007 National Agreement is now in effect. Management will enforce the attendance process to the fullest. There will be a lot of people that will get caught up and lose money. The only way to protect you is to come to work every day. Schedule your time off in advance. If you still don’t understand please ask before it is too late.

I would like to close with assuring you the membership that this committee will be both aggressive and progressive as we strive to represent you in all matters!
