Truckin' News

I am excited to welcome you to the online edition of Truckin’ News, UAW Local 2166’s official publication. It’s exciting to look back and see how the newsletter has grown since its first issue, and I would like to share some its history with you.

Truckin’ News has been serving as Local 2166’s official publication since GM Shreveport first opened its doors. The first edition, originally named Local 2166, rolled off the press in August 1981. In February 1982, the newsletter changed to its present name, Truckin’ News, and has rapidly grown since.

Now known as a first class publication throughout the UAW, Truckin’ News has been the recipient of several awards. Since its beginnings, Truckin’ News has been honored by winning a total of 31 LUPA (Local Union Press Association) awards, among which were Honorable Mention and Best Local Union News Story in 1986.

During its 26 years of existence, Truckin’ News has had three editors, with the first being Warren Danford, who now serves as Administrative Assistant to UAW President Ron Gettlefinger. David Kitterlin, who served as his co-editor from July 1986 to June 1988 was named editor in July 1988 and served in that capacity until June 1997 when he was elected as Local 2166 President. During this time, I served as co-editor and after David’s departure was named the third editor of the newsletter. Today, I am happy to still serve in this position in addition to our other staff, Bertha Dooley, Ed VanKirk, David Kitterlin, and Glenn Geiman, who are also valued parts of the Truckin’ News.

I would like to take this time to thank all Membership for supporting and making Truckin’ News the successful publication it is today!
